Hypertrichosis (also called Ambras Syndrome ) is an abnormal amount of hair growth on the body ; extensive cases of hypertrichosis have informally been called werewolf syndrome because appearance is similar to a werewolf . Two types of generalized hypertrichosis hypertrichosis, which occurs over the entire body , and localized hypertrichosis, which is restricted to certain area.Hypertrichosis, can be either congenital ( present at birth ) or acquired later in life.The his excessive hair growth occurs in areas of the skin for exception of androgen-dependent hair of the pubic area , face, and axillary regions .
Several circus performers SideShow in the 19th and early 20th century , such as Julia Pastrana , had hypertrichosis . Many of them worked as freaks and were promoted for various human and animal traits.
