Edema (American English) or edema (British English, both words with Greek οἴδημα, oídēma "tumor"), formerly known as dropsy or edema is known, an abnormal accumulation of fluid under the skin or in one or more body cavities. Typically, the amount determined by the balance of interstitial fluid homeostasis, and increased secretion of fluid in the interstitium or impaired removal of this fluid can cause swelling.
