Human papillomavirus

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is not a virus, but seven of them. (There are over 100 species). HPV can be sexually transmitted, and it can cause genital warts and cervical cancer. HPV infections are very common half of sexually active people get HPV in the U.S., but relatively few people have lasting health. HPV usually goes away on its own, without treatment, although the vaccine can protect against the virus.
